Arkansas postcard past
By Ray Hanley
Hickory Ridge, 1923: “What is the reason you have not answered my letter? … Are you sick?” Rosa asked T.E. Hollerman of Tilton, six miles away. The card was of the public school in the Cross County farming community, sent at a time when the average Arkansas school teacher earned around $500 a year.
